Pianist and Composer

Natural from San Juan, Puerto Rico, he began musical studies at the age of eleven. In June of 2000 he graduated from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, where he studied piano with Marisa García and composition with Roberto Milano. He has won several piano competitions such as the Jesús M. Sanromá Piano Competition (1997), the 2nd Interdepartmental Competition of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico (1999) and the Luis A. Ferré’s Piano Competition (2001), having the opportunity to perform Beethoven’s first two concertos and Schumann’s Piano Concerto with orchestra. He has also performed Roberto Milano’s Concertino for Piano and String Orchestra in Puerto Rico (1998) as well as in its premiere in USA with the New Jersey Youth Symphony (2000). In June of 1999 he performed in the Carnival of the Animals with the Festival Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Americas during the Casals Festival, with maestro Luis Biava conducting. He has also offered recitals in Puerto Rico and the United States.

In 1996 he began his formal studies in composition with maestro Roberto Milano in the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. Among his most known works are Storm Rhapsody for piano (1997), Wind (from his piano suite The Four Elements, 1998), Sonatina for flute and guitar (1998), and A City Overture, for orchestra (2000), this last one premiered bu both the Westminster Community Orchestra and also by the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. Composition prizes include several first places in the Institute of Culture of Puerto Rico's Danza Composition Competition, among them Beth (2000) and El Zumbador (2002). His Suite para flauta, clarinete y fagot was commissioned and premiered by the Sonora Winds ensemble in Princeton, New Jersey in 2002. More recently, his Música para oboe, contrabajo y piano was premiered as part of the Interamerican Festival for the Arts celebrated in 2004, including the participation of the renowned oboist Pedro Díaz.

He earned his Master Degree from the Westminster Choir College, where he studied piano with José Ramos-Santana and composition with Stefan Young. He is currently a faculty member of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, with an active life as pianist and composer.
