Laura Rey
Soprano

Laura Rey has a B.M. degree in Voice Performance from The Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico and a M.M. in Opera Performance from the Curtis Institute of Music.

Roles she has performed include Laeticia in Giancarlo Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief, Carolina in Domenico Cimarrosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto, Suzel in Mascagni’s L'Amico Fritz, Papagena in W. A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, The Young Girl in Ned Rorem’s Miss Julie, Mimi in Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème, Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte, Morgana in Handel’s Alcina and Lucy in Menotti’s The Telephone. She has performed with many orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico, San Juan Pops Orchestra, The Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Americas (FOSJA), Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and The Curtis Institute Symphony Orchestra. She has studied with Carlos Montané, Joan Patenaude-Yarnell, Ilca López, Justino Díaz and Mikael Eliasen. Master classes include Justino Díaz, Regina Resnik, Marlena Malas, Steven Lord, Jennifer Larmore, Anna Moffo, Eugene Kohn, Thomas Hampson, Gianna Rolandi and Timothy Nolan. She was a semi-finalist in the 2003 Metropolitan Opera Auditions held in New York. Current projects include the roles of Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore for the New Jersey Opera Theatre and Serpina in La Serva Padrona.

As a songwriter, she has written for Marc Anthony and many other Latin artists. She has been awarded by ASCAP as the Best Latin Music Songwriter of the Year 2000. She has sung with Paul Simon and jazz-pianist Danilo Pérez, among other Latin artists. She just signed a contract to record two albums with Eternity Music Productions record label. Her sacred music career has taken her to the United States, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Central America, South America, Spain and Israel. Luz del Alma and Escondida en Ti, are her most important projects of sacred music, consisting mostly on her own compositions.

Currently she teaches voice at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and in other music institutes in Puerto Rico, while keeping an active performing basis.
